From MTV to Art-Zoo - Creating Across Forms, Time and Space
How does a multidisciplinary creative straddle both the aesthetic and commercial worlds while developing a distinctive style?
Join Jackson Tan as he shares his creative journey as an leading-edge artist, designer and curator from Singapore. Through notable case studies such as MTV, the SG50 logo and ArtZoo, he will discuss how he has managed to execute a range of creative projects across differing capacities, mediums, partnerships and scenarios. He will also provide valuable insights into the evolution of the Singapore creative landscape, especially on how creative practice and works move through time and across shifting landscapes, meeting different audiences and making new meaning along the way.
To encourage free and frank exchange, this session will be held under the Chatham House Rule.
About the Speaker
Jackson Tan is a Singaporean artist, designer and curator. He is the creative director of multidisciplinary creative studio, BLACK, and founding partner of artist collective, PHUNK. Jackson is also the creator of Art-Zoo, a fun and immersive world that explores nature through the perspective of art. He has collaborated with brands and organisations such as Nike, MTV, Asian Civilisations Museum,DesignSingapore, Herman Miller and UNIQLO. Notable projects include the ubiquitous brand identity of SG50, to celebrate Singapore’s golden jubilee, and CREATIVE©ITIES, an exhibition that maps the creativity of Asia-Pacific. His works are based around his personal obsession of “finding meaning” from signs and symbols. His artworks are featured in collections and exhibitions, including Singapore Art Museum, MOCA Taipei, Venice Biennale and Fukuoka Asian Art Museum. He was awarded ‘Designer of the Year’ in 2007 by the President’s Design Award, the highest accolade for designers in Singapore.

The Arts Management Collective (AMC), is an independent group of arts management students and alumni from Singapore Management University, under the mentorship of Dr Hoe Su Fern, which aims to enable, inspire and affirm future arts managers in working towards a career in the arts.
Artlogues is a series that aims to strengthen the arts literacy of aspiring arts managers. For 2018, the series will explore the manifold ways in which an artistic idea can be actualised into reality. This year, the series is supported and made possible by our venue partner, the Singapore Art Museum.
